Youth Education

Our teachings empower the youth to live to their divine potential.

Our mission in Atlanta Unity’s Youth Education department is to provide children with a safe, nurturing, loving environment to learn and apply spiritual principles whiling living up to their divine potential. We believe every person is a whole child of God and we acknowledge the Christ-Presence in our children through the use of a living curriculum. A living curriculum affirms that what we need to learn lies within us…we are all unfolding our own spiritual paths and have access to Spirit within. Sunday school teachers facilitate lessons through stories, prayer, meditation, and creative experiences so each child can experience spirituality in various ways.

Volunteer opportunities within our Youth department:
The number of children in Youth Ed has been growing each week, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!  However, with more kids, we need more volunteers! Below are our open opportunities:

YOU Sponsor to work with our awwesome high schoolers.  This candidate would need to be willing to give 2 Sundays per month as well as be willing to participate 3 – 4 days of extracurricular activities throughout the year.  If you’re a student of Unity who relates well with teens, this might be the job for you!

A Permanent Sub for Sunday School.  Sometimes teachers have to call in sick, and we need someone who we can call on short notice to cover for that person.  You must be willing to work with preschool aged to middle school children on an as-needed basis.  All materials, lessons, and a co-teacher provided!

Youth Ed Greeter to work for about 20 minutes on Teaching Sundays helping to get kids signed in, name-tagged, and new families registered. Great fun in a great environment!

To volunteer or for more information on these opportunities, see or email Greer at greer@atlantaunity.org.

Our Youth Education department is divided in the following way:
- Nursery: Infants-2 years old
- Pre K: 3 and 4 year olds
- Kindergarten/1st grade
- 2nd/3rd grade
- 4th/5th grade
- Uniteens: 6th-8th grade
- Y.O.U. (Youth of Unity): high school (please see below for more information about Y.O.U)

Sunday School fun facts:
* Sunday school begins at 11AM
* After 11:15 AM, we request that you take your child to the service with you so as not to disturb a classroom that is already in progress
* Family Sunday is the first Sunday of every month. All children (except those in the nursery) are asked to accompany their parents in the Sanctuary with their parents for the first part of the service, then go back to Youth Ed. to watch a movie.
* Sunday school teachers are volunteers from the congregation who generously donate their time to fostering spirituality in the next generation.
* Each classroom generally has two teachers at all times
* Each child should have a registration document on file. Please ask your child’s Sunday school teacher for a registration packet on your first visit.
* All curriculum used is published through Unity World-wide ministries.

A little more information about Y.O.U.
The Youth of Unity (or Y.O.U.) consists of high school age teens. They meet every Sunday morning and are more youth-led than the other groups. In Y.O.U., teens are encouraged to explore spiritual principles and how they relate to every day life. Teens often facilitate the lessons themselves with the adult sponsors always available for guidance. Y.O.U. puts on church-wide fundraisers, does service for the church, attends regional rallies approximately three times a year, and holds social events.
